Morning Prayer

Great Spirit hear my words
show me the way
to walk in a sacred manner
to turn my cheek
where there is hate
to smile in the face of adversity
to give tolerance to those
who seem most undeserving
to see the beauty You give us each day
to hear Your voice in the songs of the birds,
the whisper of the winds
to learn to be still
to help my Brothers and Sisters when needed
to pray for them when there is nothing else I can do
to be patient with the ones I love
to be a truly loving person
to stay strong in my weakest times
I ask these things not for myself
but for those around me on this Path
that they may see You through me.
Thank you for the many blessings you bestow on me each day
and continue to bless those around me as only You can do
by giving them good health, love and peace in their hearts
Please show me what I may do for You this day
to continue this Path.....
in a sacred way.
Aho

Compassions

Compassion, word with no meaning,
when heart is full of anger and hate.
Revenge takes over,
compassion lost.
Is this what we are taught by the elders?
How do we pray, when compassion is lost?
How do we teach others, the young ones,
when the prayers lack the warmth?
How do we walk the day,
When all that carries us is anger and revenge?
How can compassion be,
when we wrap ourselves in selfness?
How can we be a healer, medicine man,
elder, teacher, or warrior,
when we hurt others?
Listen close to the young ones,
hear their words a reflection of us.
Compassion is not a weakness,
is strength of character.
Compassion is a compass,
with the four directions, a circle,
when lost no guide and no balance.
Learn compassion, you have your compass,
the circle is there, thus you pass to the young ones.

Lone Eagle

Lone eagle soaring,
hear the lonesome cry.
The pain of lone is hard.
He searches for the soul,
the soul of joy to take to Father Sky.
He swoops low to Mother Earth,
as a spirit to float threw the winds.
Winds blow and carry him,
the spirit eagle has eyes all seeing.
He see one on path, walking alone,
and carries his spirit to touch.
Rest weary one, eagle speaks,
joy will be yours, if you carry this eagle feather.
Hold it high and offer up and things will be open.
The day break star opens,
and now the spirit eagle soars up.
Now eagle soars but no longer alone.
now a soul of joy has joined him.
Sky of multi colors across the east,
and soar eagle with cry of truimph.
Aho

Woman In Red

The eagle circles,
lost hearing the call of hurt spirit.
Wolf walks beside the lone woman,
dressed in red.
The path is long, and winding.
Head down in humility and shame.
Eagle dips the wing to this one in red.
Wolf cries out,
to bother eagle carry the pain skyward.
The shame is not of this one my sister in red,
carry this eagle brother to grandfather.
Let the ways of comfort come to this one,
wolf cries as the protector.
Eagle opens the path,
and there is the circle,
Fire in the circle, calls to the one in red.
Around the fire is the four warriors,
warriors of the wind.
Embraced in the circle is this lone woman in red.
Comfort,tenderness,love and honor is returned.
In that circle is the cleansing and the healing.
Red Tail Hawk again returns for guidance,
Wolf continues to stand on left to protect,
Bear to the rear returns for strength,
Coyote to the right comes back for change.
Woman in red, healed and whole walks again with new found strength.
Aho

Journey Unknown

Journey started and the road is weary,
what lies ahead only tunkasila knows.
The reflection in the mirror of the wheel is cloudy,
so center and call upon the grandfathers and grandmothers.
Look beyond the human frailities,
listen to the whispers of the spirits.
Let your mind clear and focus,
hear the drum within.
Hear the eagle as it flys to you,
there lies the answer.
The hawk comes to guide you,
follow and watch.
Remember the bear and the strength from the rear.
Right beside you lies the wolf,
the protector.
Coyote the trickster and many faces,
learn from him.
When these things seen,
look again to the colors,
red,black,yellow and white.
Granderfather says forget not the directions,
my young one and what is there.
What you find and what you learn,
of lessons given is what you will be at then end of the journey.

Grandfathers & Grandmothers

Walking the grounds of those before,
you can hear the voices of grandfathers and grandmothers.
You hear the teachings in the songs of the wind,
hear the drums penetrating the spirit with in.
Look out on these sacred grounds,
with the spirit that has been drawn out.
The cold of the spirit drawn out is warm.
Spirit sits in the cirle,
grandfathers and grandmothers make the circle.
Teaching the ways of honor, respect and gentleness.
Teachings of healings, with what Mother Earth gives.
Gifts given by the grandfathers and grandmothers,
the caretakers of the young spirits.
East, grandfather says is renewal, warmth of spirit,
watching over and guiding others.
South, is gift of compassion, kindness and determination
West, is gift of going within, perseverance and reflection
North is gift of freedom from fear and hate,
and gives you understanding and wisdom.
Go to the grounds of those before,
And hear the Drum call and the words spoken.
Aho

Winds Of Peace

Mountain of peace,
dancing with butterflies.
Feel the joy of the day.
Darkness comes and gone the butterflies,
moon full,orange color,
coldness and strange spirits come.
Gone the warmth and spirits on the wind of night.
Four Winds come with warrior riders.
West wind rider,
bringing the perserverance,
protecting and defending.
North wind rider,
bringing the wisdom of endurance.
South wind rider, bringing the heart,
loyality, sensitivity, generosity and love.
East wind rider,
brings again the new beginings, illumination.
Each wind rider takes away the spirits
doubt, fear, saddness and anger
The Four Wind riders leaves these gift spirits,
hope, love, joy and peace.
Aho

Four Ways

Wakon Tonka hear my cry,
eagle says from the sky.
Look upon the Mother Earth,
and see what is needed.
Call upon the Four Winds,
stand in the circle of the four colors.
Bring again the gifts from the four directions.
Reminds us we are all races and tribes,
different colored flowers of one meadow.
Remind us as children of the creator,
all must be respected.
Remind us hurt of one is the hurt of all,
so to honor one is to honor all.
Remind us that to take care of each,
is taken care of Mother Earth.
Eagle soar high and carry this prayer,
that the children will heal and tears will be no more.
Aho

The Strength Of A Man
- author unknown -

The strength of a man isn't seen in the width of his shoulders.
It's seen in the width of his arms that circle you.

The strength of a man isn't in the deep tone of his voice.
It's in the gentle words he whispers.

The strength of a man isn't how many buddies he has.
It's how good a buddy he is with his kids.

The strength of a man isn't in how respected he is at work.
It's in how respected he is at home.

The strength of a man isn't in how hard he hits.
It's in how tender he touches.

The strength of a man isn't in the hair on his chest.
It's in his Heart...that lies within his chest.

The strength of a man isn't how many women he's loved.
It's in how he can be true to one woman.

The strength of a man isn't in the weight he can lift.
It's in the burdens he can carry.

Eagle and Red Tail

A long time ago Eagle, and Red Tail were the same size, and very good
friends. But Red Tail was very jealous of Eagle, and thought he was
better than him. Red Tail would always make up contests for them to do, so
he could show up his friend. This really made Eagle very sad, and every
night he would pray to creator, that Red Tail would stop. It was not that
Eagle was inferior, just that competing with a friend was wrong. They should
enjoy being different, and what each other brought to the friendship.
Well one day Red Tail came up with the idea, that they would each fly as
high as they could, and then soar back down to the ground. Eagle kept
saying he did not want to compete with his friend it was wrong. But Red tail
would not be put off. He kept taunting Eagle till he finally gave in to
him. They both took off, and started flying. Eagle was ahead of Red Tail,
and this made him furious. He started playing tricks on Eagle acting like
he was hurt. When Eagle came back to help him he took off so fast, he lost
some of his feathers.
Eagle decided to just let Red Tail win then maybe the contests would
stop. So Eagle just soared around waiting for Red Tail to come back. He
soared for 3 days waiting. He was beginning to really worry about his
friend. Finally he saw Red Tail coming back. But he looked really small to
him. As Red Tail got closer Eagle noticed that he was smaller. Eagle asked
him where had he been, and what had happened to him. Red Tail told him he
went so high he saw creator. Eagle thought he was playing a joke on him. But
Red Tail told him so seriously, that he was very sorry for all the contests,
and mean tricks he had played on him.
Eagle wanted to know after all these years why was he sorry for them. "Well"
said Red Tail, "When I saw Creator he told me how you had prayed to him
every night that I would stop the contests and the foolish games. It made me
feel so small in character, that I began to shrink to the size you see me now.
Then Creator said as my punishment I would stay this way, and all my
decedents shall be this size as well. And I will never be able to fly as
high as the Eagle again. So my friend I truly am sorry for being so cruel to
you. You clearly were better than me." Eagle was so touched by Red Tails
words all he could do was look at him. Then he said to Red Tail, "No my
friend we are equal yet different. Unique in our own ways. You will always
be my friend. But now we can celebrate our differences, and our new
understanding of each other." So on this they agreed, and cemented the
friendship by giving each other a feather. And that is why Red Tail is
smaller than Eagle. And why they both wear white as a sign of their
continuing respect for each other.
